These defects directly lead to product scrapping and economic losses. This article summarizes the most common sintering furnace processing defects, analyzes root causes from equipment and process perspectives, and provides targeted avoidance and solutions for industrial production.
1. Porosity and Low Density Defects
Defect manifestations: Sintered products have a large number of tiny internal pores, low compactness, poor hardness and strength, easy to wear and break. Root causes: Insufficient sintering temperature, too short soaking time, uneven furnace temperature, incomplete degreasing and excessive powder particle gaps.
Avoidance methods: Appropriately increase sintering temperature and extend soaking time according to material characteristics; calibrate furnace temperature uniformity regularly to eliminate local low-temperature zones; optimize the preheating degreasing process of the sintering furnace to completely remove binders and volatile impurities; standardize blank pressing density to reduce initial gaps.
2. Product Cracking and Deformation Defects
Defect manifestations: Sintered blanks have edge cracking, internal cracking, warping and dimensional deformation. Root causes: Too fast heating or cooling speed, unreasonable temperature curve, unbalanced workpiece placement, excessive thermal stress.

Defect manifestations: Product surface has black spots, yellow oxidation marks and uneven color, failing appearance standards. Root causes: Poor furnace body sealing, insufficient protective gas flow, vacuum degree not up to standard, excessive oxygen content in the furnace.
Avoidance methods: Regularly check and replace furnace sealing strips to eliminate air leakage points; adjust protective gas flow and pressure parameters to maintain stable oxygen-free atmosphere; improve vacuum pumping time and vacuum degree for vacuum sintering; clean furnace internal oxide residues regularly to avoid secondary pollution.
4. Over-Sintering and Grain Coarsening Defects
Defect manifestations: Product surface blistering, edge melting, oversized internal grains, reduced toughness and increased brittleness. Root causes: Excessively high sintering temperature, too long soaking time, unreasonable furnace temperature zoning.
Avoidance methods: Strictly set material-specific standard temperature parameters, avoid over-temperature operation; shorten invalid soaking time; optimize multi-zone temperature control to eliminate local overheating zones; classify and sinter different materials separately to avoid parameter confusion.
5. Batch Quality Inconsistency Defects
Defect manifestations: Large quality difference between different batches of products, unstable qualification rate. Root causes: Uncalibrated furnace temperature, aging heating elements, inconsistent operation parameters each time.
Avoidance methods: Regularly calibrate sintering furnace temperature and replace vulnerable heating elements; store fixed process curves for each material to realize one-click parameter calling; unify operation standards and loading specifications to eliminate human error.
