Share:Industrial hardening furnaces are prone to various equipment faults and processing quality defects after long-term high-load operation, including temperature control deviation, uneven heating, abnormal noise, unqualified workpiece hardness and furnace body heat leakage. These defects will directly affect heat treatment quality, reduce production efficiency and even cause safety hazards. This article sorts out the most common hardening furnace defects, root cause analysis and standardized troubleshooting methods to help enterprises quickly solve equipment problems.
1. Furnace Temperature Deviation & Inaccurate Temperature Control
Defect manifestations: The actual furnace temperature is inconsistent with the set temperature, with temperature error exceeding ±5°C; temperature fluctuation is frequent during operation, unable to maintain constant temperature. Root causes: Thermocouple aging and sensing deviation, temperature controller parameter drift, heating element aging and uneven power output, furnace temperature field imbalance.
Troubleshooting methods: Calibrate thermocouple accuracy regularly, replace aging thermocouples in time; reset and optimize temperature controller parameters to eliminate parameter drift; check heating elements one by one, replace damaged and aging parts to ensure uniform power output; adjust segmented temperature control parameters to balance furnace temperature field and eliminate local temperature deviation.
2. Uneven Furnace Heating & Batch Quality Deviation
Defect manifestations: Workpieces in different positions of the furnace have inconsistent hardness and performance, with obvious batch quality difference. Root causes: Unreasonable workpiece placement, blocked hot gas circulation, aging furnace sealing leading to local heat loss, inconsistent heating element power in each zone.
Troubleshooting methods: Standardize workpiece furnace placement, reserve uniform gaps to ensure smooth hot gas circulation; clean furnace internal sundries and blockages regularly; replace aging sealing parts to eliminate heat leakage; adjust the power of each temperature zone to ensure consistent heating efficiency in all areas of the furnace chamber.
3. Unqualified Workpiece Hardness (Insufficient or Excessive)
Defect manifestations: Workpiece hardness is lower than the standard value with poor wear resistance, or excessive hardness leads to serious brittleness. Root causes: Unreasonable hardening temperature and soaking time, mismatched cooling medium, incomplete workpiece phase transformation, raw material composition deviation.
Troubleshooting methods: Adjust temperature and time parameters according to steel material characteristics to ensure complete phase transformation; replace or optimize cooling medium to match workpiece processing requirements; screen unqualified raw materials and reprocess workpieces with unqualified hardness; standardize pre-treatment process to eliminate workpiece internal defects.
4. Furnace Body Heat Leakage & Excessive Energy Consumption
Defect manifestations: Furnace surface temperature is too high, serious heat loss, increased power consumption, slow furnace temperature rise. Root causes: Aging and falling off of insulation layer, damaged furnace door sealing strips, loose furnace body bolts and gap leakage.
Troubleshooting methods: Re-lay and repair the furnace body insulation layer to fill insulation gaps; replace all aging sealing strips and gaskets; fasten loose furnace body structural parts to eliminate gaps; reinforce the sealing of furnace door, feeding and discharging ports to reduce heat overflow.
5. Abnormal Equipment Noise & Mechanical Operation Faults
Defect manifestations: Continuous abnormal noise during furnace operation, jitter or stuck operation of conveyor belt and transmission parts. Root causes: Wear of transmission bearings, loose transmission components, foreign matter stuck in the operating mechanism, insufficient lubrication.
Troubleshooting methods: Stop the machine for inspection regularly, clean foreign matters in the transmission mechanism; lubricate bearings and moving parts to reduce friction wear; fasten loose transmission components and replace severely worn parts; adjust the running track of conveyor belt to avoid deviation and jamming.
6. Workpiece Oxidation & Surface Decarbonization
Defect manifestations: Workpiece surface has oxide scale, discoloration and decarbonization layer, affecting surface hardness and finish. Root causes: Poor furnace body sealing leading to air invasion, excessive moisture and oxygen content in the furnace, incomplete protective atmosphere filling.
Troubleshooting methods: Repair furnace body leakage points to ensure closed furnace chamber; extend vacuum pumping or protective gas replacement time to exhaust internal air and moisture; adjust protective gas flow and pressure to maintain stable oxygen-free environment in the furnace; clean furnace internal oxide residues regularly to avoid secondary pollution.
Regular fault inspection and timely troubleshooting can keep the hardening furnace in optimal operating state, stabilize processing quality, reduce energy consumption and failure rate, and extend the service life of industrial heat treatment equipment.
