Share:Box type tempering furnaces and bell furnaces are two mainstream tempering heat treatment devices in the metal processing industry. Many buyers cannot distinguish their applicable scenarios and easily purchase inappropriate equipment. This article compares the two types of furnaces in terms of structure, price, production efficiency, operation cost and applicable workpieces to help enterprises make optimal purchasing decisions.
The box type tempering furnace adopts an integrated fixed furnace chamber structure, with a side-opening furnace door for loading and unloading materials. It features simple structure, easy operation and low failure rate. The bell furnace adopts a separable bell-shaped furnace body, which needs to lift and cover the material rack during operation. The overall structure is complex and requires supporting auxiliary lifting equipment.
Box type tempering furnaces are widely applicable for small and medium-sized conventional workpieces, molds and hardware accessories, suitable for batch intermittent production, and can meet the production needs of multiple processes such as low-temperature and medium-temperature tempering. Bell furnaces are more suitable for large-sized cylindrical workpieces, coil materials and mass continuous production, mostly used for high-precision uniform tempering of long-strip metal parts.
The procurement cost of a standard box type tempering furnace is 30%-50% lower than that of a bell furnace with the same volume, and it does not need additional lifting equipment. Its daily power consumption and maintenance cost are lower, and the maintenance difficulty is small. The bell furnace has high procurement and later operation cost, and needs professional operators for daily management, which is only suitable for large-scale professional production lines.
The core advantages of the box tempering furnace are low cost, simple operation and wide versatility, with the only disadvantage of limited single-batch loading capacity for oversized workpieces. The advantages of the bell furnace are uniform internal temperature and large loading capacity for special-shaped large parts; the disadvantages are high price, complex operation and high maintenance threshold.
For most small and medium-sized heat treatment enterprises, a box type tempering furnace is the most cost-effective choice; for large factories focusing on continuous mass production of special-shaped workpieces, a bell furnace can be matched according to actual demands.
