Box Type Tempering Furnace Operation Guidelines: Safety Rules & Step-by-Step Process

Jun. 01, 2026

Share:

Standardized operation is the premise to ensure the safe and stable operation of the box type tempering furnace, as well as the key to guarantee consistent tempering quality of metal workpieces. Irregular operation will not only damage the furnace lining and heating elements, but also cause high-temperature scalding, fire and other safety accidents. This article sorts out the complete operation process and forbidden behaviors of industrial box tempering furnaces for operators.

1. Pre-operation Preparation

Before starting the box tempering furnace, operators need to complete comprehensive inspection work. First, check whether the external power line, electric control box and grounding device are intact to prevent electric leakage; second, confirm the tightness of the furnace door sealing strip and the installation position of the thermocouple; third, clean debris, oxide scale and residual oil stains in the furnace chamber. For newly installed or long-term idle equipment, it is necessary to complete segmented low-temperature drying treatment to remove internal moisture and prevent furnace lining cracking.

2. Standard Loading Rules

Workpiece loading directly affects tempering efficiency and quality. It is forbidden to put wet workpieces and parts with a large amount of flammable oil stains into the furnace. Workpieces should be placed in layers with uniform gaps to ensure circulating hot air can cover all parts. Do not stack workpieces randomly or lean them against heating elements and furnace walls to avoid component damage.

3. Formal Heating and Parameter Setting

According to the material and thickness of the workpiece, set the heating rate, constant temperature value and holding time. Thick workpieces need to appropriately extend the heat preservation time to realize uniform internal and external tempering. It is recommended to adopt staged heating for high-hardness die steel to reduce internal stress of workpieces.

4. Forbidden Operation Behaviors

Operators must abide by safety taboos during equipment operation: Do not open the furnace door forcibly when the internal temperature exceeds 300℃ to avoid hot gas overflow scalding and furnace lining cracking; do not disassemble the electric control box and modify temperature parameters without authorization; non-professional personnel are prohibited from overhauling live equipment; stop feeding immediately if abnormal noise or smoke occurs inside the furnace.

5. Shutdown and Post-operation Maintenance

After completing the tempering process, turn off the heating function first. Open the furnace door to take out workpieces after the temperature drops to a safe range. Clean the oxide scale generated by tempering in time, cut off the total power supply of the equipment, and record the operation data and daily faults for later maintenance reference.

Conclusion

All operators should receive professional training before taking up their posts and strictly implement standardized operation specifications. We provide free operation training and detailed user manuals for all purchased box type tempering furnaces to help customers reduce operational risks.
