After cold rolling, stamping, bending, and welding, 304 stainless steel will produce obvious work hardening, increased hardness, reduced ductility, and residual internal stress, which seriously affects subsequent deep processing and service stability. Professional annealing heat treatment is the standard process to restore the original excellent performance of 304 stainless steel.
304 stainless steel mainly adopts high-temperature solution annealing process. The standard annealing temperature is controlled at 1050℃–1100℃, with appropriate heat preservation time according to workpiece thickness, followed by rapid controlled cooling below 350℃. This process fully dissolves chromium carbide precipitates precipitated during cold processing and welding back into the austenite matrix, completely eliminates work hardening and residual stress, and restores the uniform single-phase austenite structure of 304 stainless steel.
Annealed 304 stainless steel obtains optimal comprehensive performance: significantly reduced hardness, greatly improved plasticity and toughness, excellent bending and stamping formability, and fully recovered original corrosion resistance. This makes secondary deep processing easier while avoiding cracking and deformation of finished products during long-term service.
It is crucial to avoid the 450℃–850℃ sensitization temperature zone during 304 stainless steel annealing. Slow cooling or long-term heat preservation in this interval will cause intergranular corrosion and reduce the stainless steel’s rust resistance. Professional continuous annealing furnaces and bright annealing furnaces adopt rapid cooling technology across sensitive temperature zones to ensure stable and reliable annealing quality for 304 stainless steel.
